When things aren't going right... go left. I've had to make a change in the way I'm attacking early financial freedom. Building a nice rental portfolio while simultaneously crushing my debt, hasn't been the best strategy for me. And that's okay. Realizing that taking a different approach would be better for me and my goals; is probably one of the most important decisions I've made since deciding that financial freedom is for me.
I recently read "Set For Life" by Scott Trench. I don't want to go as far as saying its this generations "Rich Dad, Poor Dad"..but its pretty damn good. Set For Life was written for those who dream of financial freedom but also work a standard 9 to 5. In the risk of over-simplifying, the author focuses on 3 steps: build up an emergency savings, pay off consumer debt and save up for investing. My current strategy involved me paying off debt and attempting to invest without being financially ready as evident in this post. My money was going different ways and not making any substantial difference. I need to make as much as possible as quick as possible, build up my emergency savings, pay off my debt and then focus on growing my rental portfolio. So... AK Events, LLC was born. A buddy of mine and I decided to start a photo booth rental business. He also has aspirations of early financial freedom and with this industry having low barriers to entry, high demand, and high profit potential - it was the perfect opportunity for us. We've already set up our legal entity and bank accounts, sourced insurance, purchased equipment, and began marketing. Now we're just taking our time and learning as much as we can about our new equipment, software, and industry. Aside from this being a great source of side income, it could be a lot of fun. Bottom line, if you know you need to make some changes in your life - make them. Don't knowingly keep traveling in the wrong direction. Horrible business ventures, bad relationships, crappy books... just PIVOT. "Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything" - George Bernard Shaw
